I found this short movie clip of the VW Pickup Concept in action hope you enjoy !!!

VW Commercial Vehicles Plan to expand by going Global.

At the IAA 2008 Commercial Vehicle Show; Harold Schomburg (in charge of VWCV Sales and Marketing) confirmed that VWCV is interested in partnering with Indian and Chinese manufacturers in a joint venture initiative in each country.

He even stated at this stage there is nothing within the current VWCV brand suited to the Indian market; currently VWCV is testing the response of the T5 and Crafter vans in India.

Harold also revealed a plan the is in motion in Russia; VWCV are planning to launch a T5 based truck to test if market specific vehicle is viable option for the brand.

The authors own experience with the Chinese market sales; shows that the FAW Volkswagen joint venture that produces the Caddy Life; has not been a Chinese success story for VWCV that the VW Passenger cars has.

I believe that market specific VW Commercial Vehicles globally is a must for future growth.

VW Brazil Launches the Voyage

VW Brazil President Thomas Schmall at the Voyage launch in Florianópolis, Brazil.

VW Brazil is launching the new Voyage sedan based on parts of the current Polo and next years 2009 Polo.

The Voyage has huge market potential in emerging markets (especially China) to become a sales leader in its segment.

So far the Voyage is only confirmed for the South American market but variants could sprawn under other VW Group brands.

Below is the Official Press Release translated via google.

Volkswagen Brazil is launching the Voyage, a completely new sedan which marks the entrance to mark one of the most important segments of the market today: the three volumes of cars with 1.0 litre engine option. The Voyage is a spacious car, versatile, comfortable and accessible, which was designed from the outset as a real sedan, and not as a model derived from the Hatch version.

Conceived, designed and developed both the New Gol, the Voyage offers the same technological innovations, engineering solutions and excellent driveability Hatch. The car displays lines and harmonious proportions, which give the sedan a touch of refinement, sports and originality.

The model is available in four versions of finish: 1.0 Voyage, Voyage 1.6, and Trend 1.6 Voyage Voyage 1.6 Comfortline, all with four doors. It comes equipped with engines VHT (Volkswagen High Torque) 1.0 and 1.6 litres, installed in the cross position, which provide excellent performance and low power consumption, with high torque even at low rotation.

The VHT 1.0 is the engine for greater torque in the category: 10.6 kgfm (104 Nm) with alcohol and 9.7 kgfm (95 Nm) with gasoline, to 3850 rpm. The maximum output of 76 hp (alcohol) and 72 bhp (petrol), is achieved at only 5250 rpm and is also high ahead of the competition. Already the maximum torque of the motor VHT 1.6 is 15.6 kgfm (153 Nm) with alcohol and 15.4 kgfm (151 Nm) with petrol, to 2,500 rpm. The maximum power, reached the 5250 rpm, is of 104 hp (alcohol) and 101 bhp (petrol).

In the development of Voyage, engineers have committed themselves to provide the model for excellent performance and driveability of New Gol. To do so, the elements of the rear suspension and brakes were recalculated receberema new calibration and performance ratio of front-rear.

The Voyage is the trunk of the most well designed category, with a capacity of 480 litres, coating and carpet in light of courtesy. He is also the only segment to offer the convenience of an electric mechanism to unlock the full automatic back cover, which can be triggered by a key or a button on the dashboard. It is a system unique, patented by Volkswagen of Brazil.

Designed to take low cost of repair in case of collision and low price of insurance, Voyage the index returned 14 in the CAR Group (Cesvi Automotive Rating), which is among the best in the category. According to the indicator of the Centre for Experimentation and Road Maintenance Security, the model has characteristics that tend to make your repair easier, faster and cheaper. In addition, the Voyage offers the new engine immobilizer Property 4, which makes the theft virtually impossible, and has locks on the doors encapsulated and protected - if forced, the barrel of the key turns into false.

Excellent value for money

The Voyage is the sedan that offers the most comprehensive list of options for its segment, including items for safety, style, comfort and technology. In all versions, you may opt for ABS brakes, front airbags, air-conditioning, radio / CD player with Bluetooth and USB input, I-System and relatively back seat, among other items.

With all its features, the kit provides an excellent value for money. In that sense, the versions equipped with 1.6 engines will have the same position that the price of competing models equipped with 1.4 engines, providing the same fuel economy, with more power and torque.

In terms of profile, the buyer's Voyage can be classified as a "wise consumer," who acts with rationality and that while already looking for a certain status. At clinics held by the company, consumers highlighted as key attributes of the model excellent position to drive, flexibility and functionality of internal space, comfort and design.

The Voyage is produced in the same production line of New Gol, the unit of Taubate, inside Sao Paulo. To receive the two products, the factory was expanded and modernized, with the deployment of 308 new robots. Among the technological innovations, the most prominent is the System Frame of the body frame, with a laser sensor, which locates and solders sides and roof to floor of the vehicle. Patented by Volkswagen Group, the system ensures the Voyage and the New Gol adjustments with precision of tenths of a millimetre.

WITH LINES AND PROPORTIONS Harmony,
THE VOYAGE WAS DESIGNED a true SEDAN

The harmony of shapes, lines and proportions of the Voyage - unique in its class - is explained by the fact that the model was designed as an authentic brand of sedan. The model has also been planned and developed alongside New Gol. According to the manager of Design & Package of Volkswagen do Brazil, Gerson Barone, "studied from the outset the various possibilities of the new derivatives platform."

The result is the creation of a "sedan in the right measure, with the trunk in the right measure, without excesses." The design of the Voyage can be noticed through the elegance and the perfection of all, as far as the car was thought as a whole.

The external design of the front of the Voyage express the same "relied on air" and the same sport of New Gol. But the lines very long and horizontalise side of the model give it an extra touch of class, refinement and originality.

In the rear, the designers sought to give the model a large and visually look stable, highlighting the elegance and strength of the forms. The lid of the trunk in the shape of "V" incorporates the logo of Volkswagen "floating" centre. The rear lamps, rectangular and protruding follow the same concept of New Gol.

"In the design of the Voyage, there is nothing random or adapted from another car. All lines have harmony and interconnectivity between them, whatever the angle of view. The car attributes as expressed perfect, comfort and elegance in the smallest detail, "Barone highlights.

The model will be offered in solid colours white and black Ninja Cristal; in Light silver metallic, gray and gray stone Vulcan, and the pearl beige Gold. Besides them, is also available to the consumer launch of the colour Red Apple.

Inside, colours and materials emphasize exclusive luxury, comfort and aconhego

The interior of the Voyage has its own characteristics, even using the optimal solutions for design of internal space and ergonomics of New Gol. Displays in the interior colours, fabrics and materials that are "hot", also with a unique and excellent finishing, with a focus mainly on the comfort of the passenger compartment.

The panel of the 1.0 version and 1.6 litres have the central frame of colour "Edelstahl," the German word that means stainless steel. The same exclusive colour - a kind of "warm gray" - is also applied to doorknobs internal doors, rims the output of air and coping, control buttons of ventilation and the cluster of instruments. But the banks are in "loom Crepe" of colour "Anthracite / Fendy" with details on "Jacquard loom Satisfaction" in the seat and backrest, and "vinyl Bison Neu" on the back and sides.

The Voyage Trend offers a panel frame in the same "Edelstahl", but finishing with details of internal (internal doorknobs, rings, buttons, etc.) in "Chrome silky" and clustered with black. The banks are also similar, with details on "Jacquard loom Satisfaction" and the use of tissue "loom Crepe Anthracite" also on the sides and in the rear instead of vinyl. The version also features differential as the fabric "loom Crepe" in the lining of doors.

A more sophisticated version of the model, the Voyage Comfortline, differentiates itself from the others by bringing materials, colours and details of finishing exclusive. The island's central panel is the colour "Warm Gray" (hot ash), following the trend of luxury car brand. The details as internal doorknobs, rings and buttons are finished in "Chrome glossy." Banks have decorative stitching and the central belt in "Pride Jacquard loom" of colour "Anthracite / Fendy", and bolsters and apply fabric in "America Warm Gray." The back and sides of the seats and doors are coated with the same colour knitting in "Anthracite".

"While the interior of New Gol highlights of the sports model, with cooler colours, the interior of the Voyage has focused on refinement and comfort, with warmer colours," explains the designer Norbert Schoeberl, a specialist in Colour & Trim. According to him, and that the two models have in common is the use of materials of high quality, good looks and pleasant to the touch.

Unlock SINGLE WITH ELECTRIC AND OPENING OF AUTOMATIC Back cover

With a capacity of 480 litres, the trunk of the Voyage is among the largest in the segment and has the ideal size in its class. Meet the transport needs of families on both of Transporters. Versatile and innovative, the trunk of the model is the only segment that offers the unique electrical system to unlock with automatic opening of the back cover, triggered by remote control in key or a button on the dashboard.

According to Antonio Carnielli Junior, manager-executive Vehicle Development of Volkswagen do Brazil, it is a unique mechanism, which was developed and patented by Volkswagen of Brazil. "The purpose of this device is to provide comfort and convenience to the user that is, for example, with his hands occupied by bags of shopping. After being unlocked, the cap moves up and stops completely in the open position smoothly. Something unique in its category. "

The coverage of the luggage compartment is all carpeted and comes with crates for built-in speaker. The body in this region is now also prepared to receive your speakers without the need for further hurricanes, both series of items.

In addition, the trunk of the Voyage also stands out in its segment to be fully coated in carpet, by providing lighting as the item number and allow for the optional use of "net charge", a network of fabric that makes the retention of secure cargo near the floor.

Even as differential, the trunk of the Voyage is the most flexible category. It can be accessed from the carrier - the 50/50 rear seat is optional extra on all versions - and can also be extended by hitting the back seat in all versions.

The closing of the lid is achieved through an integrated handle the sealing of internal back cover - item in the series Voyage - without the need to support their hands on the external surface of the car, providing more convenience for the customer.

The hinges of the lid of the trunk has a distance of 954 mm between them, while the space between the wheels of the boxes of luggage compartment is 855 mm, thus avoiding damage to bags and other objects carried.

IN CLINICAL, SPECIAL TO THE AREA
INTERNAL, COMFORT AND BEAUTY OF THE VOYAGE

The buyer's Voyage is defined by Volkswagen of Brazil as a "wise consumer," who acts with rationality in their choices, highlighting attributes such as functionality and cost-effective. It is also someone who starts to be "guided by the picture" and already looking at the same time, gain a certain status through their consumption habits.

"It's a consumer who already managed to buy his first car 0 km, a model Hatch, and now, in exchange for the product, wants buy a bigger vehicle," explains Fabricio Biondo, Manager-Marketing Planning Executive of Volkswagen of Brazil . This client, a wise consumer will be attracted by the excellent price of the Voyage and also for the many qualities of the model.

In the four carried out with consumers, features more praised by men and women were the beauty, the great finishing, the position of directing, and above all the comforts. In comparison with competitors, customers highlighted the "great internal space," pointing up in the above head height, the distance between the seat and knees and the width of the rear seat.

And this perception of space is directly related to the dimensions of the Voyage, which are highlighted in the segment. The model offers space for the front legs of 1048 mm, rear space for the knees of 14 mm, space front for the head of 986 mm, rear space for the head of 948 mm, front room for elbows of 1375 mm and rear space for the elbows of 1369 mm.

Settling of structural rigidities SUSPENSION AND MAKE AN EXCELLENT driveability

The Voyage was developed with the best technology worldwide, in just two and a half years. As the New Gol, the model was designed in virtual reality, tested in the wind tunnel and led to extreme conditions in the fields of evidence of Volkswagen around the world. Along with his "brother", the car travelled a strict routine testing for quality and durability tests until its final configuration.

Both cars are assembled on a completely new platform, developed from the same base of the Polo and Fox (PQ24). "Incorporated innovations that will be present only in the future platform PQ25 of Volkswagen Group," explained Egon Feichter, vice president of Product Development of Volkswagen of Brazil.

One of the focuses of Engineering in the development of Voyage was to ensure the same excellent driveability New Gol, with the same standards of stability, performance and braking. The rear axle has been strengthened to ensure the model the same dynamic behaviour of "brother", which is best-in-class in its category. And so the ability to transport liquid cargo was 10% higher, reaching 440 kg.

With enhanced suspension, a modern platform's structural rigidity and great body, the Voyage also reached a set of wheels above the competitors. As a result, the model presents a dynamic behaviour very firm and precise, which sends the driver a good sense of security, stability and control.

Also on the brake, the car has a behaviour highlighted in its category. "He has a pressure-regulating valve in the rear brakes sensitive cargo, in order to get a better braking space for all kinds of loads of the vehicle," said Kai Hohmann, manager-Executive Development Vehicle / Chassis Engineering.

As the New Gol, the Voyage has the best performance category

The Voyage is equipped with brand new engines 1.0 VHT (Volkswagen High Torque) and 1.6 VHT family EA 111, which provide excellent performance and low fuel consumption, with high torque even at low rotation. The propeller of 1.0 litre is the same team who Fox and the New Gol. And the 1.6 litre engine is the same models of Golf, Polo, Polo Sedan, Fox and CrossFox, in addition to New Gol.

The VHT 1.0 is the engine for greater torque in the category: 10.6 kgfm (104 Nm) with alcohol and 9.7 kgfm (95 Nm) with gasoline, to 3850 rpm. The maximum output of 76 hp (alcohol) and 72 bhp (petrol) is achieved at only 5250 rpm, is also high ahead of the competition. With this propellant, the Voyage reaches maximum speeds of 168 km / h (alcohol) and 166 km / h (petrol) and accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in 13.3 sec (alcohol) and 13.8 s (petrol ).

Equipped with the VHT 1.6, the Voyage reaches 193 km / h (alcohol) and 191 km / h (petrol) and comes out of inertia until the 100 km / h in 9.8 s (alcohol) and 10.1 s (petrol ).

The Voyage of the performance numbers are quite similar to levels achieved by New Gol and also position the model as the best in its class. Apart from using the same engines, the two models also use the same soft and precise manual exchange MQ 200, with equal division of marches.

Fuelled with gasoline, the consumption is 1.0 Voyage of 18.6 km / l on the road and 14.1 km / l in the city. The versions with 1.6 engines, also with gasoline, run 18.5 km / l on the road and 13.1 km / l in the city. The low consumption of fuel tank associated with the largest category with 55 litres, gives an excellent Voyage autonomy, far ahead of competition.

The difference in weight between the two cars - the Voyage is 35 kg heavier than the Gol - is offset by the fact that the former has a better coefficient of aerodynamic shape: 0.31 against 0.34. This is the second-executive manager of Powertrain Development of Volkswagen of Brazil, Joao Alvarez Filho, and a characteristic inherent in the body-type sedan, which does not generate much turbulence in its displacement as a body-shaped Hatch.

WITH FOUR VERSIONS OF FINISHING, VOYAGE
MAKE CHOICE OF OPTIONAL

The Voyage is offered in four versions of finish: 1.0 Voyage, Voyage 1.6, and Trend 1.6 Voyage 1.6 Comfortline.

Paris 2008: Faster, Sharper, Cleaner: The New Golf GTI Concept

In 1976 the Mk I Golf GTI was launched as a low volume addition to the Golf range. Thirty two years, five generations and 1.7 million sales after that car established the breed, the sixth generation of the GTI has been unveiled in concept form ahead of its public debut next month at the Paris Motor Show.

The core attributes of the original GTI – sharp dynamics, style and practicality – remain in the new GTI concept. Yet the new car uses the latest advances in drivetrain and chassis technology designed to enhance rather than detract from the purity of the driving experience.

The strut-type front and multi-link rear suspension architecture from the conventional Golf are adopted in modified form on the GTI. Specially tuned springs, dampers and anti-roll bars are joined, for the first time on the GTI, by the option of Adaptive Chassis Control (ACC) which comprises adjustable pneumatic dampers. With three settings ranging from ‘comfort’ to ‘normal’ and ‘sport’ the ACC system also remaps the steering and throttle response to give a vehicle that can strike a balance between sharp dynamics and body control and comfort while driving in urban areas or on motorways.

For the first time the new GTI features an electronic limited slip differential (XDS) linked to a sophisticated ESP (Electronic Stabilisation Programme) system in order to maximise traction and improve responses.

Powering the GTI concept is a 2.0-litre four cylinder TSI engine developing 210 PS – a gain of 10 PS over the Mk V GTI. Despite this gain the new engine is both more efficient, returning 37.6 mpg on the combined cycle while emitting 178 g/km of CO2 compared to 189 g/km for the outgoing car. Installed in the new Golf GTI concept the 2.0-litre TSI engine allows the vehicle to accelerate from standstill to 62 mph in 7.2 seconds before reaching a top speed of 148 mph making it the fastest standard production GTI yet produced.

A team of three designers are responsible for the new GTI concept: Walter de Silva (Director, Group Design), Klaus Bischoff (Director, Brand Design) and Marc Lichte (Director, Exterior Design). The new car bears clear visual links with the original. ‘We wanted a consistently clear GTI design, a car that has power, but style as well,’ commented Walter de Silva.

This is apparent in the red grille surround that echoes the original, along with the horizontal grille fins and elegant yet purposeful new headlights featuring individual lamp pods behind a translucent cover. In profile the side skirts of the Mk V Golf that extended the length of the sill are replaced by subtle wraparound versions that extend only partially along the lower edge of the vehicle. At the rear a set of GTI smoked rear light lenses are joined by a rear diffuser channelling air from beneath the vehicle that’s in turn framed by a pair of chrome tailpipes.

The distinctive 18-inch ‘telephone dial’ wheels from the Mk V GTI make a reappearance, albeit in subtly evolved form on the Mk VI GTI concept. Finished in milled silver with gloss black inserts, the new wheels are reminiscent of those first fitted to the GTI W12-650 concept.

Continuing the unique modifications to the GTI over the conventional Golf is a new interior. Drawing on the all-new interior of the Mk VI Golf the GTI features a flat-bottomed steering wheel finished in black leather with contrasting red stitching. A set of contoured sports seats finished in grey tartan cloth reminiscent of the Mk I and Mk V models are joined by unique instruments and gloss black dashboard and door trim inserts framed by silver highlights.

As with all Golf models the new GTI concept is fitted with a high level of standard equipment including seven airbags, a CD stereo, climate control and ESP.

The GTI concept is intended as a first step towards the Golf GTI which will start production in spring 2009. UK sales are expected to start in early summer, with prices and specifications announced closer to this date.

Wanderlust-ready – Caddy for the globetrotter

-Caddy PanAmericana concept car was designed for real-life giants
-All-terrain 16-inch tires, full-time all-wheel drive, leather interior

For generations, commercial vehicles from Volkswagen in the style of a Bulli, Multivan or California have been the first choice of globetrotters. That is because they are virtually indestructible and infinitely versatile. Exactly 23 years ago, in the summer of 1985, Volkswagen treated globetrotters (and users of the Transporter models) to the first vehicle with all-wheel drive. A short time later, one of these vans drove around the globe in 131 days – faster than any other car before it.

Since that time, the talented and versatile vans from Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles have been demonstrating their mastery of long journeys as well as the great construction sites of this world – even making passages that were previously the exclusive domain of off-roaders. A model under the “VW” label especially designed for duty off the beaten path is the Multivan PanAmericana. Essentially, this is a specialist among specialists. In a world premiere at the IAA 2008 in Hanover, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles is now presenting the second vehicle under this legendary name – the Caddy PanAmericana concept vehicle.

From a technical perspective, the concept car – like the new Caddy 4MOTION – sports the latest generation of 4MOTION all-wheel drive with electro-hydraulic Haldex clutch. It distributes power from the 250 Newton-meter strong TDI (77 kW / 105 PS) between the front and rear axles so that optimal traction is always guaranteed.

Visually, the concept car – outfitted with two sliding doors – is identified by typical PanAmericana insignias such as “Salt Lake Grey Metallic” body paint, large 16-inch wheels with all-terrain tires (here in size AT 215/70 R16), robust black plastic bumpers, recessed side skirts in aluminum look, protective underbody components in the front and rear also in aluminum look, as well as PanAmericana signatures on the engine hood and its two-section door-style tailgate. Specially framed in aluminum trim are the dark tinted side windows in the rear (privacy windows). In contrast to the production Caddy, tinted taillights and black-background headlight housings were applied to the concept van.

The interior has been upgraded by the use of luxurious and durable leather in the “Cricket” pattern. Similar to the “large” PanAmericana, the seats are designed in a natural brown tone. The individual leather sections are joined by distinctive cross-stitching; for contrast the piping is designed in a light gray tone. Also color coordinated here are the air vents in the instrument area with the metal look of their bezels. Also designed in leather are special pockets in the rear seating area that serve as extra storage compartments.

Incidentally, the PanAmericana name is an homage to two record drives on the route between Alaska and Tierra del Fuego. First, one extreme athlete rode a bicycle over the 22,880 kilometer long stretch between Prudhoe Bay and his destination Ushuaia in support of Aids relief. In another, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles set a world record in the year 1999: the Multivan Syncro of that time completed the Pan-American Highway – the world’s dream road – in just 15 days, 14 hours and 6 minutes. Without all-wheel drive this passage would have been unthinkable

Look toward the future – Crafter BlueMotion study with AdBlue technology

-Crafter BlueMotion with high roof consumes just 9.1 liters on average
-Concept car already fulfills Euro-5 standard thanks to SCR catalytic converter with AdBlue technology

In a world premiere, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles is presenting the Crafter BlueMotion concept vehicle at the International Automobile Show in Hanover (September 25 to October 02). For the first time, the company has applied the pioneering economical BlueMotion concept to a high-roof van of the 3.5 tonne class. Powered by a 80 kW / 109 PS strong common rail turbo-diesel, the Crafter BlueMotion as a panel van with high roof and long wheelbase (4.33 meter) consumes just 9.1 liters diesel per 100 kilometers on average. This value represents a savings of 1.0 liter compared to the production version. Of course, the van with its high-tech diesel engine satisfies the Euro-5 emissions standard that becomes law in Fall 2009.

Compared to the production vehicle, CO2 emissions were reduced by 10 percent to 241 g/km. Engine developers were able to lower nitrogen oxide emissions (NOx) by 43 percent. Making a significant contribution here is the SCR catalytic converter with AdBlue technology being implemented in a Crafter for the first time.

The engineers and designers of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles achieved these first-class fuel economy and emission values on two levels that merge under the BlueMotion badge. First level: aerodynamic optimization. Second and decisive level: high-tech powertrain and emissions control system. The concept car is also equipped with tire pressure monitoring and cruise control system, so that these parameters that have a significant impact on fuel economy can always be ideally calibrated too.

Furthermore, the engineers utilized regeneration – generation of electrical energy during braking – to reduce fuel consumption. Background: thanks to regeneration, battery recharging can be reduced in certain operating phases, or it may be deactivated entirely. Instead, the battery is efficiently recharged with “cost-free” braking energy in overrun operation. This specific energy management system saves on fuel. Use of a variable-control pump (VDP) for power steering also reduces fuel consumption.

The large frontal area of the Crafter’s structural design together with its high roof, made designers seek fine tuning in details. These details include a new radiator grille profile that gives the wind less surface area to catch hold of. In addition, a rear spoiler offers further aerodynamic improvements.

Modifications to the Crafter powertrain and a high-tech emissions control system had a crucial impact on the vehicle’s low fuel consumption and emission values and made it possible to decisively fulfill the Euro-5 standard.

Engine: Here Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles chose a common-rail five cylinder with 109 PS and 2,461 cm3 displacement. The production version of this 280 Newton-meter strong engine is paired with a 6-speed transmission and a diesel particulate filter as standard equipment. On the Crafter BlueMotion concept car, the engine – coupled to a rear axle with a high gear ratio (3.923:1, ECO axle) and a transmission optimized for fuel economy – is an engine version that was specially adapted, by internal
engine modifications, to a supplemental emission control system that utilizes a so-called SCR catalytic converter together with AdBlue technology.

The acronym SCR stands for “Selective Catalytic Reduction”, an internationally recognized term. “Selective” refers to the fact that this catalytic converter has a very special task: its purpose is to selectively convert nitrogen oxide (NOx) components of the exhaust gas to nitrogen and water without forming undesirable side products. It was developed precisely for this highly specialized task. Important: despite the SCR catalytic converter, in parallel the Crafter BlueMotion concept vehicle will be equipped with an oxidation catalytic converter and a diesel particulate filter.

Back to the SCR catalytic converter: conversion of the nitrogen oxides is accomplished by use of a synthetically produced, water-based urea solution by the name of AdBlue that is stored in an auxiliary tank on the Crafter. This substance consists of 32.5 percent urea and is continuously sprayed into the exhaust gas upstream of the SCR catalytic converter. It is metered according to the mass flow rate of the exhaust gas; engine management – informed by a NOx sensor downstream of the SCR catalytic converter – precisely controls the process.

Atomized into a fine vapor through a screen, the urea reacts in the SCR catalytic converter with the nitrogen oxides and splits them into nitrogen and water. The water-based AdBlue additive is nontoxic, odor-free and biodegradable.

Individualized – the most luxurious Caddy of all times

-Exclusive Style Edition has leather interior, 16-inch aluminum wheels and Climatronic

First Caddy with removable cargo floor arrives on market in November
Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles is presenting a fireworks show of new products at the IAA in Hanover. Debuting in one world premiere is the exclusive Style Edition of the Caddy Life. This new top model extends the model range upward, above the Caddy Style already launched on the market. That is to say, the Style Edition delivers more exclusivity and greater comfort than any Caddy before.

Like the Caddy Style, the Edition also includes features such as body-colored bumpers, door handles and outside mirror housings. Other features shared by both models are their leather steering wheel, overhead cargo net, ESP electronic stabilization program, RCD 310 audio system with MP3 functionality, MEDIA-IN port for MP3 player with USB plug, Park Distance Control, seat heating in front and cruise control plus multifunctional display.

Yet, the new Style Edition adds an entirely new level of features to this already exclusive package. And it includes refinements with which the Caddy Life surpasses boundaries to the next higher van segment without stretching price limits. On board the Style Edition are details such as a leather seat system in “Date” pattern (in front with sport seats), matching leather door trim, color coordinated floor mats, now with height adjustment for the center armrest for the first time, inside door handles in silver-aluminum look, steering wheel badge in the same material, “Climatronic” automatic dual-zone climate control and – a new Caddy feature – a practical, removable cargo floor.

The exterior of the Style Edition was also extensively customized. Beyond the cited features of the familiar Caddy Style, the Style Edition offers painted add-on parts along its side profile, 16-inch alloy wheels, a radiator grille with so-called chrome lip, chassis lowered by 30 millimeters, spoiler at the rear wheel housings and unique “Style Edition” signature on the sliding doors. The new Caddy Style Edition will be launched on the market in Fall 2008.

The first Caddy with four-wheel drive

-The newest generation of four-wheel drive
-World premiere at the IAA Commercial Vehicles

Hanover, 16 September, 2008: Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles writes a new chapter in the success story of the Caddy with the world premiere of the Caddy 4MOTION at the IAA in Hanover. For the first time, permanent four-wheel drive is available for the talented all-rounder. The tractive force of the Caddy 4MOTION is distributed by an electronically regulated Haldex coupling of the newest generation.

Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has modified the Caddy 4MOTION in numerous points compared with the front-wheel drive version and equipped it with new technical elements. In addition to the electronically regulated fourth-generation Haldex coupling, changes include the propshaft, an exhaust system adapted to the rear final drive and propshaft, a newly designed fuel tank and reinforced longitudinal members in the rear. A manual six-speed gearbox, standard hill-hold assist as well as the electronic stabilisation programme ESP, also standard, are ideal for use in the Caddy 4MOTION. While the front axle could be completely carried over from the front-wheel drive Caddy, the rigid axle at the rear had to be modified extensively for use with four-wheel drive.

Standard equipment in Germany for the Caddy 4MOTION includes, among other things, fog lights, heat-reflective glass, 15-inch wheels with 195/65 R15 tyres, a multifunction display and a sliding door in the back on the right (and also on the left in the Life version). The Caddy 4 MOTION can also be ordered with an upward-opening hatch or split doors in the rear, as desired.

The Caddy 4MOTION is powered by a four-cylinder turbo diesel with 77 kW (105 PS). The thrifty TDI has a diesel particulate filter (DPF) as standard and fulfils the Euro 4 emissions standard.

The power train combination of a TDI with DPF and 4MOTION attains CO2 values of 172 g/km in the panel van version and 176 g/km in the window van and Life versions, very good values for vehicles of this size. The Caddy 4MOTION attains accordingly low combined fuel consumption, using 6.6 and 6.7 litres of diesel per 100 km for the panel van and Life versions respectively. All versions of the Caddy 4MOTION have a top speed of 164 km/h. Prices for the Caddy 4MOTION will be announced at the IAA.

Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles seeks continued growth with new products

• Five world premieres at IAA Commercial Vehicles
• New series: Volkswagen Pickup show car
• Worldwide deliveries up 9.3 per cent to end of August

Hanover, 23rd September 2008. Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles is presenting five world premieres at IAA Commercial Vehicles, including a preview of the Volkswagen Pickup which will be launched as the fourth new series of light commercial vehicles towards the end of 2009. The Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles brand is on a growth track – deliveries to customers on a worldwide basis rose by 9.3 per cent to 343,100 light and heavy commercial vehicles by the end of August.
“New products, new markets, new technology – the Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles brand continues to experience sustainable and profitable growth”, emphasised Stephan Schaller, CEO of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles at today’s press conference.

The brand intends to increase its worldwide deliveries of light commercial vehicles to 800,000 units by 2018. According to Schaller, this growth is to be achieved by introducing new products and by developing variants of the existing product range, some of which can be seen for the first time at IAA Commercial Vehicles.

The most spectacular highlight of the trade fair from VWCV’s perspective is its first ever presentation of a Volkswagen Pickup show car. This adds a fourth series (in addition to Caddy, T5 and Crafter) to the brand's range of light commercial vehicles, which already boasts an extensive set of variants.

This means that Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles will be the first volume manufacturer in Europe to enter the 1-tonne Pickup segment, with its high growth global potential. According to Schaller, the key markets for the Volkswagen Pickup are the countries of South America – especially Brazil. He also sees South Africa, Australia and South East Asia as being important markets for this universally adaptable commercial vehicle. And the vehicle will also be introduced into the European market. Overall sales projections for the new Pickup amount to around 100,000 units per year.

Schaller was confident of achieving worldwide total deliveries of over 500,000 light and heavy commercial vehicles in 2008. He was optimistic of achieving this annual target, despite difficult economic conditions at the present time in certain European countries.

Schaller: “Markets are getting harder – but Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles will continue to grow this year.”

This is borne out by sales figures from the most significant markets.

• In Germany deliveries of vehicles in the Caddy, T5 and Crafter series grew by some 7.5 per cent between January and August – a total of approximately 79,800 vehicles.
• In Western Europe product delivery numbers grew by 3.2 per cent to 190,900 units.
• In the booming eastern European markets, deliveries rose by nearly 30 per cent to more than 32,900 light commercial vehicles. In Russia alone the brand sold 6,630 units, up 87 per cent.
• In South America deliveries of light and heavy commercial vehicles increased by around 25 per cent to 82,300 units.

The President of Volkswagen Trucks and Buses, Roberto Cortes, predicted that 2008 would see a new worldwide delivery record of 60,000 heavy commercial vehicles and buses. Volkswagen has been the market leader in Brazil for the last six years, and now has a market share of some 31.6 per cent.

In addition to the Volkswagen Pickup show car, the brand is presenting four other world premieres in Hall 12 at this year’s IAA Commercial Vehicles, taking place between 25th September and 2nd October.

• The Caddy 4MOTION opens another chapter in the success story of this series. With the sales launch planned perfectly for the start of winter, it will at last be possible to buy a delivery van with a permanent four-wheel drive option. In the Caddy 4MOTION, power is distributed via an electronically controlled latest generation Haldex gearbox.

• The Caddy PanAmericana Studie is a variant of the Caddy 4MOTION for globetrotters. With its 16 inch all-terrain wheels, off-road look and feel, not to mention its high-quality yet robust leather interior upholstery, the Caddy PanAmericana Studie turns heads.

• With the Caddy Life Style Edition, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles is presenting the most exclusive series Caddy of all time – a top-of-the-range Caddy variant due to be launched in November 2008.

• Another world premiere is the Crafter BlueMotion Studie. This 3.5-tonne diesel estate has a fuel economy rate of 31.04 mpg and already complies with the Euro 5 emission standard due to come into force in autumn 2009.

As Schaller said, with the Volkswagen Pickup, with the world premieres and also with other models adapted to meet the needs of global growth markets, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles is well positioned to continue along the track of profitable growth.

VW Pickup Revealed !!!!!!!

Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles shows concept of new generation of pickups

-Pickup concept vehicle offers exciting look forward to the year 2009
-Volkswagen Pickup has special equipment for lifeguards

A highlight being presented by Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles at the International Automobile Exhibition in Hanover (September 26 to October 02) is the world premiere of an innovative concept vehicle: a pickup in the 1-tonne class. The concept vehicle – executed in this case as a cleverly designed rescue vehicle for marine use – offers a preview of the fourth model series by the commercial vehicle manufacturer. The first pickup of this sort from any high-volume European automotive manufacturer is expected to set new standards in its segment. Key markets for future production vehicles are South America, South Africa and Australia; these are regions with some the greatest demand for pickups for recreational and business use – due to their great versatility. Production of the new Pickup will begin in Fall 2009 at Volkswagen’s “Pacheco” plant in Argentina.

Features of the four-door and four-seat pickup concept vehicle were conceptualized after intensive discussions with emergency services and in-house specialists for emergency vehicles. It was specially designed as a “Search and Rescue” version (SAR) for protecting swimmers and surfers from worst case scenarios. That is, it is a vehicle for lifeguards, such as those found at many large beaches around the globe. The basic technical layout of this pickup from Volkswagen – with dual cab and all-wheel drive – makes it the vehicle par excellence for such services.

It can be said in general that the pickup has been entirely re-developed by Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles. The 5.18 meter long concept vehicle is not based on any familiar model series of the Group. However, synergies do exist between individual models. For example, the latest generation of highly advanced, torque-strong and at the same time fuel-saving common-rail turbo-diesels (TDI) is being used. To date, no pickups have made an appearance on the market with such pioneering fuel economy and emissions benefits of direct injection gasoline and diesel engines, especially those being developed in Germany. The pickup from Volkswagen will be the first to fulfill these requirements.

The styling of the concept vehicle also evolved from a blank sheet of paper. The Pickup follows the new Volkswagen Design-DNA initially presented by the Volkswagen passenger car division in the form of the Scirocco and the sixth Golf generation just introduced. The pickup concept vehicle is the first commercial vehicle under the Volkswagen label to exhibit this DNA. Group design chief Walter de Silva had this to say: “We have created a selection of core elements that can be described as ‘historical DNA’. Successful new Volkswagen designs will take on this DNA to generate a feeling in the eye of the beholder that is familiar and yet new.”

Familiar and yet new –precisely this formulation also applies to the Pickup concept vehicle. The clear and powerful surfaces of its body are familiar. As is the precision with which individual body sections merge with one another. One especially noteworthy aspect, for example, is the contour above the door handles that Klaus Bischoff, design chief responsible for the Volkswagen brand, refers to as the character line. On the one hand, it emphatically delineates the door and window surfaces from one another. On the other hand – and this is unusual and therefore all the more eye-catching – the line extends from the pickup’s C-pillar over the doors and into the front fender and bumper. It is a line that gives the overall vehicle a very unique contour. Conveying high-end quality, meanwhile, are style elements such as the uncompromisingly horizontal layout of the radiator grille in which the VW logo is integrated, and the headlights that are incorporated into the lines of the grille. They give the 1.9 meter wide front end an impressive and yet pleasing look. When it comes to width, the Pickup also scores points in the rear. Specifically, in the cargo bed: unlike its direct competition, it is easy to load a Euro pallet sideways here.

The pickup-specific features of the concept reveal an entirely new visual aspect of models by Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles. In general, all body components are designed to be very robust. Specifically, the concept vehicle’s look is marked by details such as the flared wheel wells, the charismatic structure of the C-pillar (that merges into the rear end), the roll bar on the side sections of the cargo bed and the large tailgate with integrated VW logo.

The Pickup study from Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles was uncompromisingly designed as a type of automotive lifesaver. Take the exterior, for example: particularly noticeable here is the very flat and therefore aerodynamic blue-light roof module with integrated searchlight that can be electrically swiveled in any direction from the interior or by remote control. During daylight hours, the blue light is also equipped with a very conspicuous high-power LED system. A similar intermittent strobe function (in blue light) in the front and rear flasher lights also operates when the system is activated; that is why the actual turn signal function of the front flashers was integrated in the in the lower bumper section in the mounting area of the fog lights. Also located in the front bumper is a cable winch. But none of this reduces the impact of features offered by the interior and cargo bed.

The scenario for a typical use of the SAR Pickup might be as follows: the operations center reports a surfer in an emergency situation, on the Australian coast, for example. The specific area of the large expanses of Bondi Beach where the surfer took off and where the surfer is now waiting in the water are known. Based on localization of the call at the operations center, the GPS data of the position are fed into the Pickup’s navigation system – by no means is this science fiction. The radio-navigation system is controlled by a multifunctional touchscreen and a completely redeveloped infotainment head unit. Also integrated here is a CB radio and a menu level for all climate control functions. The system display is located in the upper area of the center console for ideal viewing and control by the driver and front passenger. Besides display of a map and pictograms, satellite images of the terrain can also be displayed. On the level below this there are buttons for adjustments to the chassis and all-wheel drive (e.g. differential locks). Thanks to off-road-navigation, the lifeguards can reach the emergency location extremely quickly. A compass is also mounted in the upper instrument panel area for general use.

The fact is: the pickup supports you better than any other vehicle now that the rescue operation has begun. Integrated in the front center console, together with their charging shells, are two mobile CB radios; there are two others in the rear of the dual cab. In addition, powerful flashlights are located next to the front seats. Also housed in the center console between the front seats and the individual seats in the rear: two mobile navigation systems. Directly behind it: a modular case with the most important first aid medications, a defibrillator and binoculars. Two safety helmets are mounted in the roofliner in the rear for use on bodies of water with strong currents. In front of these, within easy reach of the driver and front passenger is the switch panel for operating the blue light and the signal horn. Other components in the roof console: the loudspeakers of the mobile radio system. The saltwater resistant interior was designed to be washable, so that it can be cleaned lightning fast after an operation. Specifics: the seats are covered with neoprene, and the liners also have zippers for easy removal and cleaning. Reflective fibers were also worked into the doors, making entry and exit safer at night; thanks to its large reflective surfaces, the pickup can generally be recognized – even in darkness and from great distances.

Customized for special duty in coastal regions was the 1.55 meter long cargo bed of the Pickup, which can also carry a broad-format Euro pallet. When they arrive at the emergency location, the lifeguards find a special SAR jet ski here so that they can quickly approach the site of the incident. Integrated in the side walls of the cargo bed are life vests and rescue buoys, lights, special throw lines, fire extinguishers, blankets, and – in the tailgate – a tool set. Whether SAR features will actually be introduced to production at some later time is still entirely open. What is certain is that Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles will begin introducing the pickup to initial markets at the end of 2009. At first, it will be introduced to South America, South Africa, Australia and Europe; other markets will follow.

VW Commercial Vehicles UK expands Sportline range with the Caddy.

The success of the Transporter Sportline series in the Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles UK line up has spurred the marketing team to introduce the new Caddy Sportline and Caddy Maxi Sportline vans.

I just wish Volkswagen Australia could bring the Sportline series Down Under.

Heres the Press Release..............

INTRODUCING THE NEW CADDY AND CADDY MAXI SPORTLINE

Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has released the first images of two exciting new models in its stylish Sportline range – the Caddy Sportline and Caddy Maxi Sportline vans, set to go on sale next month.

They join the existing Transporter Sportline panel van (short and long wheelbase) and Transporter Sportline kombi to make a range of five models in Volkswagen’s dynamic Sportline range. Each vehicle combines aggressive yet tasteful styling additions while retaining the versatility for which the vehicles are renowned to provide customers with a vehicle that’s equally suited to commercial or leisure applications.

Full details of the specification and prices will be announced in October, but as the preview photographs indicate the distinctive styling of the Caddy Sportline and Caddy Maxi Sportline includes alloy wheels, a lower front spoiler with fog lights, chrome upper and lower grilles, chrome side rails, body coloured bumpers and door mirror housings, plus a rear roof spoiler.

‘We’re excited by the potential for the Caddy Sportline and Caddy Sportline in the small and medium-sized van market,’ said Gemma Cox, Product Manager, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles.

‘Judging by the popularity of the Transporter Sportline with customers wanting to create a distinctive and dynamic image for them and their business, we’re sure the Caddy Sportline and Caddy Maxi Sportline will be just as successful,’ she continued.

VW Brazil revives the Voyage nameplate.

2009 Voyage

Volkswagen of Brazil has confirmed that their new 2008 Gol series based sedan will revive the 1980s badge Voyage.

Voyage was released in 1981 to the Brazilian market with many upgrades over its lifetime until it was dropped in 1994.
Outside of Brazil it is probably best recognized in North America where it was sold under the Fox nameplate from 1987 to 1993.

The new Voyage is based on various module components from the Volkswagen Group’s PQ24 and PQ25 (Polo) platforms; due to this the Voyage will have a transverse east-west engine instead of the north-south configuration.

Voyage will be powered by two engines the 1.0L TotalFlex producing around 72-76hp (55kW) and 1.6L TotalFlex producing 101hp-104hp (76kW); TotalFlex is fuelled by a combination of 100% Ethanol or a mixture of normal Unleaded combined with Ethanol.

VW of Brazil will launch the new Voyage at the Sao Paulo Auto Show in October.
